About the platform

By offering a “three-windows-structure”, the platform provides you with summarizing texts, related documents, background information, links and glossary terms. Therefore, you can easily compose your individual ‘information package’, depending on your specific interests.

The “three-windows-structure” in detail:

Window 1, left hand side of the screen: Summary of all relevant information (main text of the unit). At the bottom of each page, selected links to relevant research institutes and publications are listed.

Window 2, upper right hand side: Additional explanations, documents, illustrative tables and graphs. These elements can be activated by clicking on links in the main text (Example!). The links for Window 2 are marked in red letters.

Window 3, down right hand side: Short explanations for selected glossary terms. The glossary terms can be activated by clicking on links in the main text (Example!). The links for the glossary terms are marked in red italics.
Please note: Some of the tables of the unit can be displayed in a larger size by clicking on the symbol “magnifying glass”. An additional window will then be opened in which the respective table is displayed in a larger size.
The user can proceed to the next page or go back to the previous page by clicking on the blue arrows at the top and at the bottom of each page.

The user can navigate through the unit by clicking on “contents” at the top of each page. Moreover, where appropriate, direct links to other chapters of the unit are integrated in the main text.

In order to optimize the display of the three-windows-structure, the resolution should be adjusted to 1024 x 768. The respective adjustments can be done via “system control/ display/ settings”.
Important note:
At the time of updating this unit (January 2008), there was no official version of the consolidated Treaties, i.e. the Treaty of the European Union and the Treaty of the Functioning of the European Union, available taking into account the changes of the Lisbon Treaty in terms of substance and numeration of treaty articles.

The authors of the unit, however, decided to provide the reader with provisional consolidated versions of selected, central Treaty articles. A readable Treaty text is considered to be the base for a substantive understanding of the changes as laid down in the Lisbon Treaty. The numbering of the articles follows the tables of equivalences set out in the annex of the Lisbon Treaty (cf. art. 5, para 1 Lisbon Treaty and the related annex) on which the official final version of the Treaties will be based. Despite the authors’ efforts to produce correct consolidated versions of selected articles, it has to be stressed that they do not represent final official versions.
