1400: Democracy in China/Dr. Hermann Halbeisen (SoSe 2013)

I) Programme

This course deals with aspects of the reception of the concept of democracy in China. It covers the period from the late 19th to the end of the 20th century. Particular attention is paid to the differences between the Chinese and the Western liberal perceptions of democracy.

The course design is based on the ideas developed by Prof. Leidhold in his lecture 'Einführung in die Politische Theorie und Ideengeschichte' (WS 12/13), namely the nexus between the structure of experience, the history of ideas and the polity.
